FLORENCE CIVIC CENTER ARENA

SPORTS (INDOOR ARENA)
FLORENCE, SC – AUGUST 2013

THE PROJECT

The Florence Civic Center is a 10,000-seat multipurpose arena in Florence, South Carolina and home to the state’s collegiate basketball finals. The facility was interested in reducing their energy costs but wanted to make sure they met the NCAA standard of 125 foot candles across the court.

THE PROCESS

To meet their 125 footcandle requirement we used a combination of 40 HBXSL 400-watt fixtures at 80°x80° and 12 AFL 1000-Watt luminaires at 15°x15°, both at a color temperature of 5000K.

THE RESULT

The delivered foot candle levels, along with Philips drivers, met the NCAA standards for televised games. The overall light levels measured an average of 80-footcandles on the floor, permitting the venue to be used successfully for other functions as well. In addition to reducing their energy costs for illuminating this massive space by over 50% compared to the metal halide lamps they were using previously, the Florence Civic Center also reduced their maintenance costs as Metal Halide lamps are only good for 10,000-15,000 hours of life, while the LED luminaire have an expected life of over 100,000 hours.
